First Days

Sorry for the bad formatting aha.

INT. BATHROOM. MORNING.
JACK splashes his face. He then picks up a towel from by the
sink which he uses to dab his face. He stares at himself in
the mirror.
JACK (VO)
You can do this Jack. Deep breaths.
JACK notices his stubble in the mirror.
JACK (VO)
I need a shave...
Picking up his bag off the floor JACK turns off the bathroom
light and leaves the bathroom.
INT. REFECTORY. MORNING.
CASHIER
That will be one pound twenty
please.
JACK
Err...
JACK pulls out a lot of change from his pocket. And fingers
through it to find a pound coin and a twenty pence piece.
JACK
There you go.
JACK picking up his tray tuns to look for a seat. He spots a
table in the far corner of the refectory with only one
person sat at it.
JACK (VO)
If there is one thing I’m gunna do
today it’s make friends with that
person.
JACK walks across the refectory towards the GIRL.
JACK
Mind if i sit here?
GIRL looks up from her food, hair hanging in front of face.
GIRL
Er...no...go ahead.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2.
JACK
Cheers.
GIRL flicks hair out of face revealing pretty features.
JACK (VO)
Oh god, she’s beautiful, how am I
menna’ talk to her now.
JACK picks up his sandwich and takes a bite. Red sauce drips
out of the back of the sandwich all down his front.
JACK
Oh for god sake...why me?
GIRL
Here you go.
GIRL flicks JACK a napkin to clean himself up with.
JACK
Cheers. My name’s Jack by the way.
JACK holds out his hand towards GIRL
BECKY
Mine’s Becky.
BECKY takes JACK’S hand and shakes it quickly. Removing his
hand JACK cracks his fingers one by one. BECKY winces at the
sound.
JACK
Sorry.
BECKY
Nah it’s fine, I do it all the
time...better than you too.
BECKY laces her fingers together and stretches them outwards
resulting in a loud cracking noise.
BECKY
’You’ll get arthritis’ my mum
always says. I’m worried I will but
it’s a habit I can’t break.
JACK
Yeah, me too. My friends,
especially the girls, don’t like
it. It grosses them out y’know.

CONTINUED: 3.
BECKY
Well Cracky McCrackinson, it
doesn’t bother me...What course you
doing?
JACK
Psychology.
BECKY
Oh! Me too!
JACK
Sweet, I can’t wait, I’m so
psyched. I did it at A-Level and
was instantly in love with it.
BECKY
Yeah, me too! Freud rocks man.
Can’t get enough of Freud.
BECKY checks her watch.
BECKY
Come on, we’re gunna’ be late. We
may as well walk together.
JACK
Yeah sure.
INT. CORRIDOR. MORNING.
JACK and BECKY walk down the corridor until they come to a
toilet. BECKY goes inside the toilet and when she comes out
she has applied eyeliner and a bit of blusher. JACK notices.
JACK (VO)
Eyeliner...Blusher...I wonder if
she likes me?
INT. CLASSROOM. MORNING.
JACK and BECKY enter the classroom. There are no seats
together so they have to sit apart, separated by two tables.
JACK sits next to a chubby boy who moves slightly, shifting
his chair, pad and pen away from JACK. The door to the
classroom opens and JACK looks at the door as LUCUS walks
through. He goes to his desk and puts down his books.
LUCUS
Hi class, my name is LUCUS and I’m
going to be your tutor for this

module. Sorry to say, but you are
stuck with me for a year.
The lesson resumes and JACK and BECKY keep looking at each
other and catching each others eyes. In the background LUCUS
talks but this is an inaudible muffle to show JACK is not
listening.
LUCUS
Right class that’s it for today
take a reading list from that pile
there on your way out and have a
look over it and make sure you have
all the things you need from it.
JACK walks out of the classroom first and waits for BECKY.
INT. CORRIDOR. AFTERNOON.
BECKY walks through the door and comes over to JACK.
BECKY
How’d you find that then?
JACK
If I’m going to be honest I didn’t
really concentrate that hard on
what he was saying. My mind kept
wandering.
BECKY
More than your mind kept wandering
mister, I caught you looking at me.
JACK is visually embarassed.
BECKY
Don’t be embarassed Jack, to be
honest it made me smile, I
was...uhhh...bullied alot as a kid,
so I guess it makes me happy when I
receive any good attention now.
JACK
Oh...erm...I’m sorry to hear that.
BECKY
Thanks...it was a long time ago I
guess, but it just sticks with you.

CONTINUED: 5.
JACK
Yer I know what you mean, I was
bullied to. Not for long though,
the bully ended up getting kicked
out of school...Wanna’ go grab a
coffee or something?
BECKY
Yeah. Sure.
INT. REFECTORY. AFTERNOON.
JACK and BECKY are talking at the table where they first
met. Inaudible speech.
INT. JACK’S BEDROOM. NIGHT.
JACK is led on his bed. Headphones on, arms behind head.
JACK (VO)
Now that wasn’t too bad was it?
Ahh...I can’t wait to see her
again.

  1. Hi Daniel, I’ve only been on wordpress for a short amount of time, but I’ve never come across anyone’s script-writing, so this is a first for me! But I really like the beginnings of this story you have here: I laughed at all of Jack’s awkward moments with Becky. Thanks for following my blog, and I hope to read more of your writing!

  2. I’ve searched many days for scripts of screenplays, as well as teleplays. More often than not, they’re available, for a fee. Very nice to see some scripting thrown into the mixture of other ideas and thoughts.
