Ella: The Beginning – New Draft

Here is the new draft of Ella: The Beginning. I have made a few changes based on the feedback I was given on the last draft, so again I invite your feedback, I am pretty happy with this apart from the end now so I will probably leave the beginning and middle alone for a while as I want to go onto the next story set in this universe. But I would still love the feedback, it can help shape future work too!

This post comes with a little bit of bad news thought I am afraid. On July 13th the domain name for this blog will revert to danposwriting.wordpress.com and my contact@wordsformwindows.com email address will stop working unless I can find the $18 (I don’t what it is in my currency (GBP)). Hopefully I will be able to afford it by then and the website will go uninterrupted but I just thought I would give you a heads up as any links on your blog to my work will stop working.

Some good news though, it is my birthday next Monday (the 25th) and I will be 21! A true adult aha, I feel like I am getting so old, although I know 21 is still young aha!

Ella – The Beginning Draft 3

Ella: The Beginning

Hey everyone, the completed short story from which I posted an excerpt the other day has no had a comb through and I would like to present to you Draft 1. I would love for any feedback you can give this. The ending is a bit of a cliff hanger which is what I intended, as once I have done a few more drafts of this, I am going to move on to the next tale in this world I am looking to create.

The PDF is below and I thank you all in advance.

Ella – The Beginning

Rough Excerpt

Here is a rough excerpt from the story I am working on at the moment. It is a three thousand word short story. I have just finished my first draft and will be reworking it soon!

I ran too it and began to dig, putting to use all of the speed I had recently been given, the deeper I got the redder the sand got, until it was pure crimson. By then I knew it was too late, but I couldn’t leave her there like that. I dug down and finally uncovered her. I pulled her mangled corpse up out of the sand, bent my knees and jumped with all my power, soaring into the air. I came crashing down onto the top of the Weisman building, one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city. In the distance I saw the skeletons of the other skyscrapers, just rotten husks collapsing in on themselves, crashing into the streets below. Continue reading

Agh!

Turning a story into a film is difficult, and anyone who complains that films of books are “rubbish” because they “left too much out”.

You see, so much in a story comes across from the descriptions and narration as opposed to the dialogue. Whilst in a film you have to get the majority of information through the dialogue, and any action. But you have to balance that with just coming outright and saying for example; “I haven’t been outside in a week.”

One way you can combat this is using voice over, which is okay for a short film, but unless done right wouldn’t be the best solution for a feature length film.

I am working on turning my short story; “Come With Me”, into a short film script, and this is one of the troubles I am having, especially since the story is in first person, so we are told a lot of the emotions and thoughts through the main character.

It is a challenge, but one I am enjoying and when I have completed it I will upload the script and provide a link to the original story and if you have the time, I’d appreciate any feedback you have.

Past Week

So I have had a very very very busy past week, but all the assignments are done finally huzzah! Unfortunately I just really don’t want to write anymore (a 4000 word short story, a 3000 word learning journal/reflective essay, a 30 minute radio script, 5 minute monologue, a 10 minute opening of a script and another reflective essay, really takes writing out of you aha).

So I have gone back to an old hobby of mine and that is 3D Modelling, I studied a Games Design course in College and picked up the basic skills there, but eventually I ended up stopping the modelling unfortunately, but because I’m a student I can get free software so I got myself a copy of 3Ds Max and here is a selection of what I have created so far!

Come With Me – Complete First Draft

I have finally finished the short story I have been working on and strangely I managed to finish dot on 4,000 words aha.

I have attached the file for those of you who would like to read the full thing, I know a few people would like to know what happens to Eric in the end, so this is for you. And anyone else who stumbles across it for that matter, I hope you enjoy my writing and if you have feedback I would leave to hear it.

Thanks again!

*Update* I have recently made some revisions to the story and have uploaded the newer story, it is no longer 4,000 words exactly.
